It is good that he decided to give it a go.Bit Part Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06190704883240544188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146092214213444763.post-52851256332403718772012-10-09T12:34:58.510-04:002012-10-09T12:34:58.510-04:00Thanks, Eve. I had forgotten what a great comedian Jack Elam could be.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146092214213444763.post-21053622069211978762012-10-08T22:06:29.913-04:002012-10-08T22:06:29.913-04:00I must've first seen Jack Elam in "Gunfig...I must've first seen Jack Elam in "Gunfight at the OK Corral," the only movie I remember my father taking us to see (he liked Westerns). But Elam eventually was, indeed, all over TV back in the days when Westerns ruled.

The last thing I'd have imagined him to be before he was an actor is - a bookkeeper!?! It also had Gary Busey and Mark Hamill in the regular cast, and maybe that wasn't strong enough to carry the show.

Elam is a perfect character actor, not a lead. He would be a great sidekick for a sheriff or a detective show. And Mark Hamill is great doing voices for animation. We won't talk about Busey's lifestyle. Together they only make a half a star.Bit Part Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06190704883240544188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146092214213444763.post-18107239511491357552012-10-05T11:54:37.338-04:002012-10-05T11:54:37.338-04:00Jack guested 15 times on "Gunsmoke" in a...Jack guested 15 times on "Gunsmoke" in a variety of roles that showcased his versatility from the comic (PS Murry Christmas) to an unrepentant drunk (The Sisters). Gunman, lawman, town drunk - he did it all.

Do you remember "The Texas Wheelers"? For a few weeks it looked like Jack Elam would be a sitcom star. T'was not to be.
